than 15 minutes after the appointed time and they will lose their
test fee.
The pass mark is 30 out of 35.
This is followed by the hazard perception test, a series of video
clips to test the rider’s reactions to road changes.
The theory test pass certificate will be valid for 2 years (in which
time the rider must pass the practical test or otherwise re-sit
the theory test).
The Rider Practical Test.
Riders will undertake an eye-sight test. This will be followed by
two ‘show me - tell me’ questions about their machine.
The candidate
will be fitted with a radio receiver on a belt and an ear-piece
designed to be worn under the helmet, so the examiner can give directions
as they ride on the road. The examiner will want to see that the
candidate can ride safely with good control, understand the rules
of the road and deal with other road users safely. The test includes
a U-turn, a hill start, slow riding and an emergency stop.
The whole test lasts about one hour.
Licensed to Ride.
Once
a rider has passed their CBT and also passes their theory and hazard
perception test, they may take a practical test to obtain a full
motorcycle licence.
There
are 2 types of full licence to aim for:
A light
licence (A1) which restricts riders to any bike up to 125cc and
a power output of 11kW. The practical test must be taken on a bike
of between 75cc and 125cc.
A standard licence (A) is obtained if the practical test is taken
on a bike over 120cc but not more than 125cc and capable of at least
100km per hour.
After passing the standard practical test riders will be restricted
for 2 years to riding a bike of up to 25kW and a power/weight ratio
not exceeding 0.16kW/kg. After this they may ride any size of machine.
