Insurance
A
rider must have the appropriate level of cover for
their particular machine before riding on the road.
Third
Party Only (legal minimum). This covers liability
to others and damage to their vehicles or property.
Third Party Fire & Theft. As above but also includes
fire damage or theft of the rider’s vehicle.
Comprehensive. As (1) and (2) above plus also covers
damage to the rider’s own vehicle.
The make, model and value of a machine are some of
the things that affect the cost of insurance. Mopeds
with gears are often classed as a ‘sports’
moped, and could cost more to insure when compared
to a ‘twist and go’ moped, which can be
classed as a commuter.
Riding
without insurance is illegal and carries a heavy penalty.
Before riding anyone else’s machine the rider
must check that they are covered to do so.
